Our 2021 strategy demonstrates our commitment to mentoring for GSE members. Mentoring is especially vital for helping colleagues achieve Professional Recognition, building confidence, and establishing networks across their field.

Mentoring towards Professional Recognition: how it works
For Professional Recognition, we aim to provide a mentor to all members on our express cohort. You can find information on express cohorts in our Professional Recognition support booklet. If you would like a copy of this booklet, please email us at gse@go-science.gov.uk. Mentors will be GSE Profession members who are chartered status (or higher) ideally by the same professional organisation as the applicant. Mentors will provide support and advice while you build your portfolio and make your application. We aim to provide a one-to-one mentor/mentee ratio where possible, depending on the number of mentors.

Leadership mentoring
Those working towards Professional Recognition may also be interested in our leadership mentoring offer, which is available to line managers of all grades across GSE. To support leadership development and promote a mentoring and coaching culture within government, GSE Profession runs its ‘Empowering Leadership’ mentoring programme each year. GSE members are mentored over 6 months by other members to build their skills in empowering their teams and building high performance.
