GSE Opportunities: FLS/SLS Leadership schemes and L&D opportunities.

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: GSE Opportunities, Our People & Deep Dives, Talent & Leadership

Future Leaders Scheme & Senior Leaders Scheme (Grades 6,7s and SCS PB1s)

Each year, Civil Service Talent invite substantive Grade 6s, 7s and SCS PB1s to apply for places on government talent programmes. The Future Leaders Scheme (FLS) is for current substantive G6 or G7s looking to develop senior leadership skills. The Senior Leaders Scheme (SLS) is for current substantive SCS1/Deputy Directors who are looking to develop top leadership skills for the highest ranks of the Civil Service.

This year’s scheme is due to be launched in August and in line with previous years, a self-assessment tool will be provided to help individuals decide whether they should make an application.

Briefing events are being held for potential applicants to find out more about the FLS and SLS. These are open to GSE Profession members. The first of these sessions has been booked for:

  • 20th August 2019, 10.00 – 12.00, ONS Drummond Gate, London

The Civil Service Talent Team will attend to talk about the process, and the kinds of things applicants should be thinking about. The team is keen to invite some FLS/SLS alumni to come along to this session to talk about their experience.

For more information about the application read the FLS/SLS flyer2020. Further details are also available on Civil Service Learning website.

Applications will open on 18 August 2019.

Compelling Insights through Data Visualisation - Office for National Statistics (ONS)

This piece of learning is part of a wider learning package commissioned by the Chief Executive of the Civil Service, aimed at upskilling the capability of all civil servants to produce briefings and submissions, ensuring complex data is portrayed in a clear manner. The course is aimed at people not aligned to an analytical profession, and will share some key principles to consider when using data to tell a story.

We are now taking bookings for our half day course.

Current dates available:

13:00, 7 November – ONS, London

10:00, 18 November – ONS, London

Additional dates and locations will be confirmed shortly, but in the meantime, if you are unable to attend the advertised workshops please email us at analysis.function@ons.gov.uk with your name, department, and location and we will add you to our waiting list.

You can book yourself onto a session on the Eventbrite website.
