The GSE Geography in Government Awards

Following the very successful inaugural Geography in Government Awards in 2019, the Geography Profession in GSE is pleased to announce the 2020 Geography in Government (GiG) awards. The awards recognise and celebrate the important work members of our profession undertake across the civil, crown and public sector. Reflecting the importance of geography and spatial thinking in the design and delivery of public policy, our members are drawn from a diverse range of organisations, with membership now standing at over 1,100 geographers.

The five individual award categories are as follows:

  • Advancing geospatial data science
  • Contribution to the profession
  • Operational delivery
  • Impact on policy
  • Excellence in geo-visualisation & cartography

But in recognition of the excellent work undertaken by members of the profession across local government organisations we have also added in a new category which is ‘Excellence in local government’.

Shortlisted nominees will be invited to the Geography in Government awards ceremony hosted by the Scottish Government in the week commencing 27 April 2020 at which the winner of each category will be announced.

The winners of each category will be reviewed by an external panel to identify this years overall winner who will be invited to the prestigious RGS award ceremony.

All nominations need to be submitted to govheadgeog@defra.gov.uk by Friday 21st February 2020.  The nomination form can be found here The GSE Geography in Government Awards 2020 Nomination form .

Details of the categories and how to apply can be found here The GSE Geography in Government Awards 2020 Full details.
