Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: GSE Opportunities
We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic applied biologist or occupational health scientist to become the Technical Team lead for the Biohazards team within our Exposure and Health Consequences (EHC) capability portfolio in the Health & Safety Executive’s (HSE) Science Division.

You will be responsible for the scientific and technical performance of the team, the quality of their work and leading the strategic direction of their science. You will lead and contribute to research projects for both HSE and Industry, alongside contributing to incident investigations, with the aim to prevent death, injury and ill-health of workers and those affected by work activities. You will need to, under challenge, think strategically and engage at different levels with scientific peers, regulatory and policy colleagues, at senior levels within the organisation and across Government.

This is an excellent opportunity for a professional to make their mark on an organisation dedicated to saving lives. This role will be based at our Science & Research Centre in the spa town of Buxton, Derbyshire. The Centre is an internationally renowned scientific facility for health and safety, employing scientific, medical and technical specialists in a purpose-built laboratory at our 550-acre site.

Job description

By applying your scientific knowledge, experience and technical expertise particularly in applied molecular biology and/or environmental microbiology you will lead the Biohazards Team both strategically and technically.

You will develop technical expertise in your team to deliver HSE’s requirements; working with the wider management structure to actively develop and maintain talent in-line with the GSE Framework and business need. You will work with the Capability Team Lead to assess technical capabilities and training needs, considering future scientific areas of working and succession planning.

An expert in your field, you will provide technical and scientific expertise to design and deliver research projects to ensure they address the scientific question posed; you will also be responsible for leading the writing of project proposal bids and project costings.

There will be occasions when you will travel for site visits and meetings, as well as the opportunity for attendance at conferences both within and occasionally outside the UK.
