The breadth of science and engineering in Government is strengthened in all areas by the diversity of the workforce. Thousands of scientists and engineers work incredibly hard for the public, particularly over recent months, providing essential services from COVID testing to data science and electronic engineering, and the UK is rightly proud of them.
The GSE Diversity and Inclusion Action Group was formed to support the GSE People Strategy in driving forward improvements in diversity and inclusion. Its role is to ensure that the Profession’s goals and activities align with the GSE Profession’s Diversity Pledge.
The group is renewing its commitment to champion interventions to improve equality, diversity and inclusion across the profession within Government. In the recent committee meeting all members expressed support for racial equality within society and the workplace, the global movement for change and the increased awareness of efforts to achieve equality for all, including those working within government science and engineering. Work is continuing identifying workable interventions with action plan for implementation. If you would like to be involved in the group or the development of the action plan please contact gse@go-science.gov.uk
The GSE Diversity and Inclusion Committee will continue to work together to champion the inclusion of all within science and engineering in government. We are actively working to identify and remove barriers which prevent all from achieving their full potential through our work to deliver the actions outlined in the GSE Strategy.
