Volunteer Interviewers: Science and Engineering Fast Stream (SEFS) Final Selection Boards

The Final Selection Board is the last stage in the Fast Stream assessment process for Science and Engineering candidates. It consists of a written exercise, oral presentation and competency-based interview, where candidates will need to demonstrate capability across the range of Science and Engineering specialist competences. Interviewers need to be Grade 6 and above and need to be able to commit to a full day of interviewing.

The Science and Engineering Fast Stream Final Selection Boards will be held throughout January and February. All panels will be held in London. If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch with Amanda Charles: amanda.charles@go-science.gsi.gov.uk

GSE Regional Event – South-West England and Wales, February 27th

The Intellectual Property Office is hosting a regional event for GSE Members in Newport on 27th February 2018. Come and learn about Big Data, with talks from our neighbours in the Data Science Campus & Big Data team at the Office for National Statistics and from the IPO Informatics team.  The afternoon will be about what it is like to be a scientist or engineer working in operational and policy roles in government with a series of presentations and a roundtable session.

Vacancies: Analysts within Government Actuary’s Department

The Government Actuary’s Department (GAD) currently has up to 8 permanent and secondment (12 months) opportunities available for Analysts.

At GAD we work as actuaries and advisers for the UK public sector. We want to be widely recognised for our development of analytical, actuarial and business skills and we are looking to recruit Analysts who will play an important role in achieving this.

As an Analyst (B2) you will be working as a part of a team to support the delivery of advice across a broad and exciting range of areas. These include pension scheme valuations and benefit design, investment strategy, government policy, social Insurance, long-term care, health, risk and Insurance.

Vacancy: Digital & data innovation lead (SEO)  - Office for Security & Counter Terrorism, Home Office

The Office for Security and Counter Terrorism (OSCT) is responsible for developing and coordinating HMG’s approach on a wide range of security issues, supporting the Home Secretary and other Ministers in the development and implementation of the UK’s strategies for preventing terrorism and reducing the risk from organised crime.

The advertised post sits within the Protect, Prepare, CBRNE and Science & Technology (PPCS) Directorate, and is for an SEO lead for Digital and data innovation and Programme Support. The role will include leading our programme in digital investigations and pursue/prevent disruptions and supporting delivery of a new area of work on data innovation. This involves overseeing delivery of existing projects; working with policy colleagues to identify new requirements; developing these into project plans; and working collaboratively with other government departments, industry and academia, and international partners.
